Person-Centred Therapy

From a MSc Qualified, HCPC registered Music Therapist

ONE TO ONES

Arash can build strong relationships with the individuals he works with. He uses joint singing, improvisation, listening and many other musical techniques in sessions as well as verbal support. Arash practices a person-centred approach to individual music therapy and is keen to learn about the histories of the people he works with.

CLOSED GROUPS

Closed groups are small referral only music therapy groups. These are often for people who may benefit from socialising within a smaller group, where the environment is calmer and less prone to distractions. Individualised goals that relate to wellbeing can be pursued in closed groups, such as reducing anxiety or promoting self-expression.

OPEN GROUPS

Open groups are not clinically orientated sessions like one to ones and closed groups. They are a more traditional form of musical activity and are open to all residents at a home. Large numbers of people may be in the group and music is used to promote positive experiences and spontaneity. Arash approaches these sessions not as a performer, but as the facilitator of a interacting music group, where everyone’s ‘voice’ is equal.

‘Music is a language that doesn’t speak in particular words. It speaks in emotions’ – Keith Richards

Arash is a lovely person… His manners are impeccable; he is kind and caring towards the residents and he speaks courteously and respectfully to both residents and staff.

Jackie

Company nameDementia Care Home Manager

Arash has risen very well to the challenges of working with this client group, and he is sensitive of the effects on the individual clients that are brought about by their condition (eg frailty, confusion, difficulties with making choices). With his individual client he has shown a lot of warmth and has been building up a good relationship with her.

April

Music Therapy Supervisor

Arash is a very fine musician. He is a sensitive and versatile piano player and he has adapted his skills towards the needs and responses of his individual client with appropriate therapeutic intent. He improvises well and I have been impressed with his ability to develop ideas and motifs into attractive compositions.
